New York-based Trusted Media Brands (TMB), formerly the Readers Digest Association, has bought LA-based Jukin Media, a video-streaming social media company for an estimated $100m. The combined company will have hundreds of millions of users creating content supplementing the different community-based brands already owned by Trusted Media Brands. These include Readers Digest and Taste of Home and reach 60m people in the US.
Jukin Media was founded in 2010 to supply UGC to media and advertising and its properties include WeatherSpy, People Are Awesome and The Pet Collective. Together, these reach 200m online users and generate 2bn video minutes each month. Consumers of TMB brands will have enhanced access to content covering their hobbies and interests – and connecting advertisers to a wider audience.
