The Global Media Weekly for executives and entrepreneurs

Medium buys books biz

Medium, US based online short form publisher of professional and user generated content, has bought social book business Glose.

Glose allows users to buy, read and share their thoughts on books with friends. The two businesses are going to retain their separate brands but the acquisition may facilitate e-commerce from Medium’s magazine site with readers able to download digital or audio books mentioned or authored or by topic.

Glose is based in France, was founded in 2014 and now has a catalogue of 1.5m titles, including titles from publishers Hachette, Penguin Random House, and Simon & Schuster. The link with Medium will expand the reach of the site to a wider global audience.

Medium was founded in 2012 by Evan Williams, a co-founder of Twitter. Terms not disclosed.
