Dotdash drops 5 mags

Dotdash Meredith (DM) is shutting the print editions of five of the former Meredith Corp’s magazines, InStyle, Entertainment Weekly, Eating Well, Health, and Parents. CEO Neil Vogel told employees that the move would cost about 200 jobs, some 5% of DM’s total staff: “We have said from the beginning, buying Meredith was about buying brands, not magazines or websites. It is not news to anyone that there has been a pronounced shift in readership and advertising from print to digital, and as a result, for a few important brands, print is no longer serving the brand’s core purpose.”

Dotdash parent company IAC acquired Meredith last year in a $2.7bn deal. The combined company, including Meredith’s portfolio of more than 40 brands, claims to reach almost 200m online consumers monthly.
