The Global Media Business Weekly

How to profit from data and analytics

The Flashes & Flames ‘Monetising B2B’ conference in London in May features a discussion panel on “How Proprietary Data Transforms B2B values”. The Data Content panel comprises: Neil Bradford (CEO-founder of the energy PRA General Index and formerly CEO of Argus Media); Charlie Kerr (CEO of With Intelligence which last week continued its rapid journey from B2B publisher and events organiser to data and analytics provider, with the acquisition of The Deal from Delinian); Leon Saunders Calvert (president of Economist Intelligence and formerly of Refinitiv, Thomson Reuters and Mergermarket); and Mariana Valle (CEO of Insurance Insider, and formerly Debtwire and Mergermarket).

The panel will be moderated by Rory Brown, chair of Realfin and co-founder and former CEO of AgriBriefing which itself transformed from a B2B publisher to a Price Reporting Agency. He says: “Exclusive content and proprietary data has never been a more vital component of B2B than in an era when so much news and information is becoming commoditised, not least by AI. Our highly experienced panel will discuss how B2B companies can (and should) develop exclusive data, including transactional prices, in order to enhance their value to readers and users.”

The panellists will discuss their own strategies on data and analytics and give advice to their B2B peers on how best to develop high-value data content, including pricing including assessments of future market developments.

The panel is one of three at the heart of Monetising B2B, alongside “The Changing Shape of Events” (featuring the leaders of Clarion, CloserStill, Terrapinn and Questex) and “The Practical (and Profitable) Applications of AI in B2B Media”. The AI panel will be moderated by digital media specialist Paul Hood (ex News Corp and Dennis) and will include Adriana Whiteley, director of FT Strategies, with further speakers to be announced. Its focus will be on the practical ways in which B2B media can directly profit from AI.

Additionally, the programme includes in-depth interviews with the leaders of Lexis Nexis Risk Solutions (RELX), William Reed, SelectScience, Mark Allen Group, Informa Festivals, RX Global, Business of Fashion, and Transaction Advisors Institute.

Ahead of the conference, all delegates will receive an exclusive eBook of case studies covering all the companies featured. This is expected to enhance the quality of discussion and debate, and help delegates to make the most of the event and follow-up.

Those interested in attending Monetising B2B are advised to book soon. First, because there is currently an EarlyBird, limited-time 14% discount on the price; and, second, because the capacity of the historic 300-year-old Stationers’ Hall is just 200.

Early indications are that the May 20 conference will be a sell-out.
