Major Spanish language media company TelevisaUnivision, formed through the January merger of Televisa and Univision, is to buy US-based Spanish language streamer Pantaya from Hemisphere Media. Pantaya has 900k subscribers paying $6 monthly, and a content library which includes titles created from its own production company as well as from large producers. It was originally launched as a JV between Lionsgate and Hemisphere. In 2021, Hemisphere bought the 75% it did not own for $124m, giving a company value of $165m. The acquisition is to be financed as a combination cash and the exchange of radio stations in Puerto Rico. It should complete later this year.
