Geniuslink buys shop site

Geniuslink has bought the assets of Kit. com from Patreon. Kit is a commission-based social shopping site, founded in 2015, allowing users to bundle items into kits which they recommend to followers.

Content creators include well known YouTubers selecting their favourite camera peripherals, or podcasters showcasing their preferred equipment. The site has 2.3m monthly visitors; prior to acquisition by Patreon in 2018, the company had raised $2.5m.

However, its spell under Patreon’s ownership did not sufficiently enhance paid memberships to their membership-based business platform, hence the disposal. Geniuslink launched in 2009 as a social commerce site and is based in Washington state with 13 employees.

Kit allows influencers to bundle products without separate negotiations with individual brands. More powerful influencers usually seek higher earning endorsement arrangements with individual brands.
