Microsoft is buying ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, the publisher of game franchises Doom, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls in a deal worth $7.5bn.
The acquisition will enable Microsoft to bundle the games with its Xbox Game Pass subscription. The Elder Scrolls has shipped 60m units and Fallout 35m. The deal comes before the launch of new Xbox consoles this autumn. Microsoft’s Xbox and gaming revenue totals some $160bn globally.
