Sony buys ‘Sex Education’

Sony Pictures Television is to buy a majority stake in Eleven, the production studio which produced the Netflix series Sex Education. The company’s independent British production portfolio already includes Left Bank Pictures, producers of The Crown.

Eleven was founded in 2006 by documentary makers Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson, and became known for Sex Education which was said to have had 40m Netflix viewers in the first month. The third series is due to start filming later this year.

Sony has now spent over $3.5bn in the past two years on content deals, including the music publisher EMI, the Silvergate animation company and Peanuts, producer of Snoopy. Terms were not disclosed.
