The sale of Parler, a conservative-friendly US social media platform, to former rapper Kanye West was yesterday called off by the app’s parent company, Parlement Technologies a month after a deal had been agreed. The end of talks came after negative including the West’s reported declaration of affection for Hitler on a podcast. The Parler platform had been described as a refuge for users barred from other social media apps such as Twitter – including West.
In January this year, Parler raised $20m in funding. The app, which claims to have more than 16m registered users, described its mission as focusing on protecting “against the authoritarian powers of Big Tech, Big Government, and cancel culture.”
