DK buys Phonics

Dorling Kindersley (DK), the children and young people’s imprint of Penguin Random House, having launched DK Learning earlier in 2022, has now acquired Phonics Books, a UK publisher with a catalogue of 300 titles for new readers.

Phonics was established in 2006 by three teachers familiar with the special needs learning segment and the titles are all phonically decodable. Their market spans 40 countries. The deal supports DK’s strategic move into education combining curriculum related books with teacher resources. DK is also reacting to new education policy in the US where phonics-led teaching has been mandated in many states.
