News Corp buys (more) B2B

The $14bn Rupert Murdoch-controlled News Corp is further strengthening its B2B operations by acquiring publisher Base Chemicals for $295m in cash for a business with an expected 2021 revenue of $65m.

The business is being sold by HIS Markit as part of its measures to obtain regulatory approval of its merger with S&P Global.

Base Chemicals, which will join the Dow Jones Professional Information business unit in a new vertical serving energy, renewables and chemicals, offers a Market Advisory covering pricing and insights along with World Analysis looking at longer terms trends and forecasts. News Corp’s Chief Executive Robert Thomson described the deal as ‘opportunistic’ and sees obvious synergy in the growing sustainability sector, with OPIS (the US-based Oil Price Information Service) also acquired from IHS Markit, for $1.2bn in August 2021.
