BT to sell UK sports TV

BT (British Telecom) is considering a sale of its BT Sport TV operation and has appointed Lazards to advise. Companies which may be interested in acquiring the subsidiary include Amazon, Disney, sports streaming company Dazn, and private equity. The division evolved in response to Sky Sports moving into broadband provision causing BT to match the offer. Discussions are at a very preliminary stage but BT’s shares rose on the news. BT is trying to focus on fibre and 5G as its core offer. BT Sport has a customer base of 2m in the UK.
