Murdoch invests in India

Media investor James Murdoch (ex News Corp, Sky TV and Fox) has teamed up with Uday Shankar, former Disney APAC President, to form a new digital media business operating in India with a planned reach across Asia. They formerly worked together on Star India.

Murdoch has been investing in India through his Lupa Systems company which has backed Indian startups Dailyhunt and Harappa Education (along with Vice Media and New York’s Tribeca Film Festival).

The new venture is expected to focus on media, healthcare and education and to make acquisitions, aiming to harness demand for services to major growth in mobile connectivity across India. Demand for digital education services has seen rapid growth across the last year, driven by lockdowns and school closures.
