Reach plc, the listed UK news publisher, has received regulatory approval to add the remaining 50% of Independent Star, publisher of the Irish Daily Star, from co-owner Independent News & Media. Reach acquired the initial 50% stake in September 2018 with its acquisition of Northern & Shell’s assets (including the Daily Express and Daily Star) and the news brand will join Reach’s other Irish publishing assets including the Irish Mirror and Sunday Mirror which already reach a claimed 23.5m users.
