Fandango buys Vudu streaming

The Fandango division of Comcast, of the US, has bought the Vudu film streaming service from the grocery chain Walmart. Vudu operates a no-subscription model with film purchase or rental available for a one-time fee.

Fandango reaches 60m unique monthly visitors, according to Comscore, and will add Vudu’s 100k movie titles to its offer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The coronoavirus pandemic has adversely impacted Fandango’s digital ticketing operation from the lockdown closure of cinemas, so the company is focussing on the fast-growing streaming servies. Vudu will continue to operate the Walmart online movie store.
