Finnish dailies ‘merger’

Sanoma, of Finland, is to buy most of the assets of the regional news company Alma Media in a €115m deal which will bring Finland’s two largest dailies, Helsingin Sanomat and Aamulehti, under the same ownership, subject to regulatory approval. Sanoma will also acquire 14 regional newspapers, and a printing house in Tampere under the deal. The acquired business, which had 2019 revenues of €99m and EBITDA of €15m, has a total of 190k subscribers and 365 employees.
